I learned to love drawing from my aunt, who studied at the Royal College of Art in the 1940s. Drawing is my primary connection to a subject. Mark making captures the essence of a moment from nature. Whilst drawing informs my sculpture, it remains a separate medium .

When I draw the swans, I feel as though I am transported into their world. This has led me to record the progress of their lives in a constantly evolving sketchbook diary.
